Glimcher Malls Launch "Momtopia" - Virtual Network For Moms
COLUMBUS, OH (May 11, 2007) — Glimcher Realty Trust officials today announced the launch of a new virtual community and resource designed specifically for today's time-starved and information-hungry moms and caregivers with young children 0-8 years of age. The online network, Momtopia, will go live on Mother's Day, May 13th and can be accessed through Glimcher's mall web sites. The site will feature not only each mall's latest sales, family-based events and retailers, but also relevant information from a wide variety of sources that is intended to make a mom's life less hectic and a little more balanced.
"We learned that social networking sites have attracted almost 70% of moms who are online. Momtopia is being launched so that our malls and retailers can share information and connect with moms on a more personal level," said Jill Clark, Director of Marketing for Glimcher. "It also gives us the opportunity to facilitate the mom-to-mom sharing of advice and practical tips through the site's customer-generated advice columns," she added.
The Momtopia site will be divided into different areas of interest to moms and families. "Mom Space" will have information and links relating to health and wellness, parenting, entertainment and of course, shopping. A gift giving reminder service and an online "wish list" are also planned. "Kidding Around" will feature content such as how to find the best children's books, back to school ideas and tips for starting meaningful holiday traditions. The "Motherly Advice" area will enable moms from across the country to communicate with the mall and each other.
In addition to Momtopia's online components, moms who register to join the Momtopia community will also receive advance notice of special retailer promotions and occasional Momtopia family-based events.
Earlier this year, Glimcher also launched "License to Shop," a new year-round effort to help area non-profit, community, school and civic organizations in their fundraising efforts.
License to Shop features a card and brochure that provide one-time discounts at participating mall retailers and restaurants. Non-profit groups can sell the card/brochure sets for $5 each, and are able to keep 100% of the proceeds.
Clark added that the malls' staffs are particularly excited about the benefits that surround License to Shop. "Customers help their favorite organizations and see their $5 investment pay for itself through the incredible values very quickly. The non-profit groups benefit because, unlike traditional candy bar, wrapping paper and other fundraising efforts, today's consumers are more receptive to making donations for which they see immediate and ongoing returns. And, rather than keeping just a portion of the sales, the non-profit organizations keep 100% of the proceeds. New retailers benefit, too, because we've included an on-line component to the program in which they can participate, even if they open their doors later in the year. So the program is always current. Ordinary coupon book programs cannot accommodate that."
